Waterloo Health and Safety Management

Waterloo’s health and safety management structure establishes the framework needed to comply with relevant legislation and help prevent workplace incidents. This framework outlines the duties and responsibilities of all members of the university community in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) — Davis Centre

AEDs are portable medical devices used to help people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. One AED is behind the desk in the main DC library, a second AED is on the third floor of DC directly above the ring road entry doors.

First Aid Assistance

Faculty and staff in the Davis Centre trained in first aid are listed on the Health and Safety board in the Graduate Mailroom and in DC 1339.

Risk Assessments and standard operating procedures
The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that workplace hazards be identified, assessed, and controlled.

Waterloo’s Health, Safety, and Environment Management System supports a consistent, systematic approach to safety and environmental practices.


Fire Wardens

Fire wardens play a vital role in keeping occupants safe during emergencies by assisting with evacuations and promoting fire prevention practices.

Right to Refuse Unsafe Work
Members of the university community have the right to refuse work they believe to be unsafe, as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
